The air was electric at the athletics stadium yesterday as Robyn lined up against former professional athletes and Olympians in the 5000m track race. She finished 15th after a tough contest at the front of the pack. Here are a couple of photos…video highlights to come later.

Emotional scenes at the 2009 World Masters Games tennis centre as Stef and Pete were awarded their gold medals for doubles tennis. Soak up the pomp, fans.

Stef and I won the men’s doubles tournament today without dropping a set. It was extremely windy, so the quality of the tennis was a bit disappointing…but the other blokes were all good value and we had a great time together.

A total of 3 gold medals in our camp now…and Robyn is still to run tomorrow in the 5000m!

Here are some highlights from the doubles tournament (there are 2 separate clips):

Here’s a short clip of my gold medal ceremony for singles tennis in the men’s 35-40 age group at the 2009 World Masters Games. Oh, the emotion!

On Monday I was up against Per Lundgren in a clash to decide the Bronze medal.

It was a tight match (despite the scoreline), but Per was too consistent and I buried myself under a mountain of unforced error. The final score was 6-3 6-1 to Per.

My next chance for a singles medal will be at Torino in 2013.

See below for an extended highlight clip of the match.

Today I successfully defended my gold medal from the Edmonton games. It was a tense match, and a great experience to play on a stadium court with umpire, linespeople and ball kids. The score was 6-3, 6-2. Thanks to my opponent Keith for a great game, and congratulations on his silver medal.

Here’s a 3 minute highlights package of the gold medal match.

Here’s a little video clip to give you a taste of the sound and movement at the 2009 World Masters Games Opening Ceremony.

Opening Ceremony

11/10/2009

We’ve just returned from the opening ceremony for the games here in Sydney.  About 30,000 atheltes marched in the parade and we five watched and cheeered from the spectators seats.

Here are some pics…
